Oath of Allegiance to the Motherland!

On May 29, the 85th anniversary of the start of the Great Patriotic War, a significant event took place within the walls of the legendary Brest Fortress—a place sacred to every Belarusian. First-year students majoring in Customs at Brest State Technical University swore a solemn oath of allegiance to their homeland, the Belarusian people, and their educational institution. The ceremony, which symbolized the beginning of the professional careers of future customs officers, was attended by city officials, representatives of the Brest Customs Office, the university administration, as well as parents and senior students.

Taking the oath is not just a formality, but a conscious step, signaling that recent graduates are beginning their long and responsible journey into the profession. On the same day, new customs officers also swore the oath, underscoring the unity of generations and continuity in protecting the country's economic security. The ceremony concluded with a flower-laying ceremony at the Eternal Flame in memory of the heroic defenders of the fortress. On behalf of the entire city, City Executive Committee Chairman Sergei Lobodinsky congratulated the new recruits, wishing them honorable service for the good of the Republic of Belarus.

We spoke with first-year student Anna about the significance of this day for first-year students.

— Anna, what does this day and the oath ceremony mean to you?

— Today is a very important day for us; we are taking the oath for the first time as students majoring in Customs. It is especially symbolic that this is happening within the sacred walls of the Brest Fortress. I would also like to say that it is a great honor for us, as current customs officers are taking the oath today. This demonstrates that we are becoming part of a greater cause—the protection of the economic security and sovereignty of the Republic of Belarus. For us, this oath signifies our beginning our journey as customs officers. We vow to study diligently so that we can become worthy specialists in the future and serve our country with honor.

— What does serving in customs mean to you?

— For me, the customs service represents a huge responsibility for the economic security of the Republic of Belarus. It is an honor to serve the Fatherland and protect the country's interests at the border. This is a profession where honesty, discipline, and dedication are essential. I have chosen this path consciously because I believe the work of customs authorities is critical to the well-being of my country.

— How are your studies, and do you plan to pursue a career in customs authorities?

— Studying is very interesting! We gain fundamental knowledge in customs: we study legislation, economics, and customs procedures. The instructors impart not only theory but also practical skills that will definitely be useful in the workplace. I definitely plan to pursue a career in customs authorities and, after graduating, work in customs, contributing to the country's economic security.

— Why did you choose this specialty?

"It was a completely conscious choice. Before enrolling, I studied in a specialized customs class at Brest School No. 1. During my studies, we learned about the history of customs and the specifics of this profession, and numerous events were held—and this truly piqued my interest. By the tenth grade, I was confident in my choice and knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life.

The words of the oath were spoken. These young people have years of study and practice ahead of them, but the first and most important step on the path to becoming a professional defender of the country's economic borders has already been taken!"
