A preventive awareness session on digital safety was held for first-year students of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Brest State Technical University. The event featured Viktor Viktorovich Shevlik, Head of the Public Order and Crime Prevention Department of the Internal Affairs Directorate, and Andrey Vyacheslavovich Strunts, Head of the Cybercrime Counteraction Unit.
The experts explained the key risks students might encounter online:
Recognizing threats: how to identify phishing messages, fake websites, and current telephone and internet fraud schemes
Data protection: guidelines for creating strong passwords, securely storing personal information, and configuring two-factor authentication
Action plan: what to do in the event of attempted theft of funds or the hacking of social media and instant messaging accounts, as well as where to seek immediate assistance
To conclude the meeting, staff from the BrSTU Department of Ideological and Educational Work presented the students with a "Legal Guide for First-Year Students."
