Concrete and Building Materials Production Engineering

History of the Department

The Department of Concrete and Building Materials Production Engineering is one of the oldest Department of the modern Brest Technical University. The history of the department began in 1967, when the Department of "Building Materials" was founded in Brest Civil Engineering Institute (today Brest State Technical University).

The department was headed by:

Zhorov Vladimir Leontievich, Ph.D. in Engineering Science, Associate Professor (from 1967 to 1977);
Zaitsev Anatoly Alekseevich, Ph.D. in Engineering Science, Associate Professor (from 1977 to 1987);
Volkova Flora Nikolaevna, Ph.D. in Engineering Science, Associate Professor (from 1987-1988).

In 1988, the Department of "Building Materials" was united with the Department of "Building Construction Technologies". The united department was called "Building Construction Technologies and Building Materials" which was headed by:

Bobko Fadey Aleksandrovich Ph.D. in Engineering Science, Associate Professor (from 1988 to 1989);
Golubitskaya Galina Andreevna Ph.D. in Engineering Science, Associate Professor (from 1989 to 1991);
Ploskonosov Vladimir Nikolaevich Ph.D. in Engineering Science, Associate Professor (from 1991 to 1992).

The training of engineers-technologists-builders in the specialty "Production of Building Elements and Structures" was opened in the Institute in 1991.The organization of the learning process in this specialty is carried out by the Department "Building Construction Technologies and Building Materials". The variety of work‘s field of the department does not allow to manage effectively its activities and requires the improvement of the management structure of the learning process. In this connection, by the order of the rector of Brest Polytechnical Institute No. 67 of June 12, 1992, the Department "Concrete and Building Materials Production Engineering" was separated. Dovnar Nadezhda Ivanovna, Ph.D., associate professor, headed this department from 1992 to 1993.

Since 1993, the department has been headed by Viktor V. Tur, Professor, Doctor of Engineering Science. The Department of "Concrete and Building Materials Production Engineering" is the graduate department in the specialty 70 01 01 "Manufacture of construction products and structures" and prepares specialists qualified as a civil engineer-technologist, which allows them to work practically in any direction of construction and not only production.

Also students study special subjects in the following specialties of intramural and extramural education: "Industrial and Civil construction" (1-70 02 01), "Motor Roads" (1-70 03 01), "Expertise and Management of Real Estate " (1-70 02 02), "Architecture" (1-69 01 01), "Rural Construction and Planning" (1-74 04 01), "Production Automation" (1-53 01 01), "Water Supply and Sewage Systems Engineering, Water Resources Management" (1-70 04 03), "Soil Conservation and Water Resources" (1-74 05 01), "Commerce" (1-25 01 10).

The Department provides training of graduate students in the specialties "Building construction, buildings and structures", "Building materials and products."

The main directions of practical activity of the department:

  • Researchandimplementation intopracticalapplicationofexpanded cements, self-stressing concrete andself-stressedstructures. At the department, a laboratory of self-stressed structures has been created and works successfully at the above mentioned scientific problem for more than 15 years. Concrete with expanded cement is used for:
    - prefabricated-monolithic skeletons of residential buildings when fixing joints between prefabricated elements of the frame;
    - manufacture of monolithic bearing crossbars;
    - floors made of tensile concrete;
    - restoration of serviceability of building structures by the method of injection;
    - in any building products and structures where it is necessary to prevent the development of tensioning caused by shrinkage-induced and (or) create a prestressing.
  • close engineering survey of the technical condition of building structures and buildings;
  • selection and optimization of the compositions of various types of concretes (heavy, light, foam mortar) and matrixs on various types of binders with the application of admixtures and a comparative evaluation of their effectiveness;
  • development and optimization of dry mixes compositions for various types of matrix’s, finishing and auxiliary materials (plaster, glue, hydrophobizated, etc.);
  • development of detail drawings and standard series for building constructions and structures;
  • introduction in practical use of fiberglass reinforcement in building structures and products;
  • development of compos and implementation into the building practices of the use of non-autoclaved gas-fiber-reinforced concrete on a mixed binding as a structural and (or) heat-sound-insulating material;
  • development and implementation of structural concepts of precast and cast-in-situ self-stressed water tanks with a capacity of 50..500 m3, sewage pumping stations, sedimentation tanks. For the development of capacitive structures of water supply and sewerage, the staff of the Department and the Laboratory of self-stressed structures were awarded the title of Laureates of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus, and the structural concepts were recognized as standardized;
  • development of technological documentation for the production of building materials and works in accordance with the requirements of the TKP 45-1.01-144-2009 (02250);
  • development of the text of technical regulations for different types of building materials and products in accordance with the requirements of the TKP 1.03-2010 (03220);
  • Assigning and optimization various types of thermal treatment of building materials, including concrete, according to TKP 45-5.03-13-2005 (02250) using advanced and most efficient technologies;
  • Drafting of a thermal balance of the enterprises, workshops and separate processes for a substantiation of power expenses and definition of necessary power of connection;
  • Development of IT-structures for statistical processing of information flows in the control of technological processes for the production of building materials (statistical methods of monitoring various quality parameters, including the class of concrete).
