Days of Chinese culture and literature in Brest

Foreign students of BrSTU from the People's Republic of China took part in the opening of the project “Days of Chinese Culture and Literature in Brest”.
The goal of the project is to show Brest residents a wide range of Belarusian-Chinese interactions, to help strengthen friendship between the two peoples and to stimulate interest in learning the Chinese language.
Among the guests of the meeting who delivered welcoming speeches were: the Head of the Department for coordinating the activities of cultural organizations of the Culture Directorate of the Brest Regional Executive Committee, Liliya Alekseyevna Svidunovich; Chairman of the Union of Writers of Belarus, Director, Editor-in-Chief of the Zvyazda Publishing House Alexander Nikolaevich Karlyukevich; management of the Confucius Institute of BrGU named after A. S. Pushkin: Director from the Chinese side Fan Shengliang, Director from the Belarusian side Angela Evgenievna Saidi; Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of BrSTU Mikhail Vladimirovich Neroda. In addition, the Director of the Center for Belarus Studies at East China Normal University in Shanghai, Professor Bei Wenli, addressed the event participants via video link from China.
The central event of the opening was the presentation of the series of books “Bright Signs: Poets of China”, with the reading of Chinese poetry translated into Belarusian. Our Chinese students took an active part, reading poems by Chinese authors translated into Belarusian. Poems by Wang Wei, Li Bo, Du Fu and other authors were read. And Yanka Kupala’s famous poem “Who’s going there?” was spoken in Chinese.
The Days of Chinese Culture and Literature will last until March 14 at the Brest Regional Library named after Maxim Gorky. They will include an open lecture dedicated to the topics of the People's Republic of China and interregional cooperation between Belarus and China, meetings with students and teachers of the Confucius Institute, teachers and students of “Gymnasium No. 5 of Brest” and “Secondary School No. 7 of Brest”, in who study the language of the East Asian country, as well as master classes. It will be possible to communicate via video conference with a classical dance teacher at the Yellow River Institute of Science and Technology in Zhengzhou, Brest resident Anna Liu. During the implementation of the project, the exhibition “Belarus – China: openness, harmony, peace” will be on display.
