On April 10, at the Brest State Technical University, as part of the festive events dedicated to the 58th anniversary of the university, a “Day with the Leader” and “Student Government Day” were held.
These events provided a unique experience for students, allowing them to temporarily switch roles with faculty and administration. After a busy day, they shared their impressions and left reviews.

The work of the Rector of BrSTU Sergei Antonovich Kasperovich was observed by Anna Telipko and Alexander Belovezha.

Anna Telipko: “I have always dreamed of spending a day with the Rector of the university, as it is a unique and exciting experience. During this meeting, I learned about how the Rector manages the university, what methods he uses to achieve success. In addition, spending the day with Sergei Antonovich gave me the opportunity to look at university life from a new perspective. I saw what tasks and problems the leader solves and what opportunities and prospects students and teachers have. As a result, the day with the Rector was not only a great experience for me, but also an opportunity to gain new knowledge and inspiration for developing myself as a leader.”

Belovezha Alexander: “Today I had the chance to play the role of Rector. This day turned out to be an unforgettable and inspiring experience for me. This was a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the top management of the university and its work, and learn about its vision for the development of the university. I had the opportunity to attend the Rector’s report on innovations related to an unmanned tractor, attended a meeting of the Rector with Vice -Rectors, visited the presidium of the Council of Rectors of Belarus, reviewed the Rector’s documents and expressed my point of view regarding the proposal on these documents. This day gave me a lot of positive emotions, knowledge and management experience. I am very pleased and grateful that I had the opportunity to serve as Rector.”

Students Diana Melnichuk and Olga Botova assisted Vice-Rector  for Academic Affairs Mikhail Vladimirovich Neroda in his work.

Diana Melnichuk: “Spending a day with the Vice-Rector for academic affairs is a unique opportunity. We clearly saw that the decision-making process plays an important role in the life of the university. We were able to feel the full degree of responsibility. We learned a lot of new things and gained an unforgettable experience that will be useful in our professional activities in the future.”

Olga Botova: “Touching the work of the Vice-Rector turned out to be even more significant for me than it initially seemed, because learning about mechanical work is one thing, but getting to know a living person who is responsible for a huge part of the activities at the university is quite another. It is difficult for an ordinary student to understand the full value of the work that the Vice-Rector does, and sometimes we also need a reminder that people work everywhere, just like us, who have their own ideas, experience and knowledge. Thank you for making our student life truly carefree and interesting thanks to the work of the leadership!”

A student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering shared a review of the day spent with the Vice-Rector for educational work, Natalya Petrovna Yalova.

Dmitry Baraban: “I would like to express my gratitude to Natalya Petrovna Yalova for the opportunity to try myself as an understudy. The work was intense and interesting; during the event, a meeting was held with the chairman of the students' trade union committee, and they were also instructed to draw up a plan of events that could be carried out with students on the eve of the Victory Day holiday. In addition, it was possible to talk about the structure and responsibilities of the educational department. If I had the opportunity to try myself in the role of Vice-Rector again, I would gladly agree.”

Vladislav Tomashov shared his review of the day spent as Vice-Rector for scientific work: “I am very grateful that on the day of self-government I had the opportunity to be in a leadership position – Vice-Rector for scientific work.
During this day, I attended events, checked the work of laboratories, and performed other organizational tasks.
I gained valuable experience in management activities and understood exactly how events are organized. I want to say that preparing an event begins with determining the purpose of its holding, as well as the main organizer. Then comes the setting of tasks, determination of the list of participants, and expenses. An implementation plan is being developed. Responsible persons are appointed for each task. The manager constantly monitors the progress of the plan and coordinates it.
So I studied the entire chain of command. The experience gained is very useful for me, and I will use it in the future. I also consider the practice of student self-government positive.”

Mikhail Yanchuk and Ekaterina Solomyanko tried on the role of Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering.

Yanchuk Mikhail: “Today I had the opportunity to be the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering. During this day I was able to feel all the beauty of the Dean’s work. I had the opportunity to attend the assignment of students to places of work, attend a meeting with the Rector with my colleagues on the replacement of management, analyze student profiles, and also got to know the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering better. This day gave me a lot of knowledge and experience, and I am very glad that I had this opportunity.”

Ekaterina Solomyanko: “I am grateful to the university for the opportunity to spend the day with the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering. It was a fascinating experience, thanks to which I learned a lot about the structure of the faculty and was able to look at its work from the inside. During the process, Inessa Pavlovna answered many questions that arose, told how she sees the faculty in the future and what is planned to be done to realize this vision, what difficulties remain to be solved. I believe that such events contribute to the development of a sense of responsibility for the fate of BrSTU and the popularization of work at the university among students.”

The management of the Faculty of Electronic Information Systems was carried out by Zarechny Adrian, Alla Osipova and Anastasia Smerdina.

Zarechny Adrian: “Today I spent the day with the Dean of the Faculty of Electronic Information Systems. The impressions from this day are unforgettable. Although this work is labor-intensive, it is extremely important for the functioning of the faculty.
On this day, I had the opportunity to attend a discussion of the issue of distribution together with the heads of graduating departments, a discussion of the possibility of employment with various customers of personnel, and a visit to the department’s branch at OJSC “Tsvetotron”, on issues of increasing interaction between the enterprise and the university.”

 Alla Osipova: “Today I gained a unique experience by replacing the Deputy Dean for educational work in his duties. Exposure to routine tasks such as preparing attendance sheets and coordinating events gave me a new perspective on running an educational institution. Preparing for the upcoming debate with the Associate Dean was not only a great opportunity to contribute, but also enriched my organizational and project management skills.”

Smerdina Anastasia: “Student Government Day allowed me to look into the process of managing educational activities. It was incredible for me to spend time as Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs and Research, doing not only the creation and editing of curriculum, but also a little creative activity in the form of organizing scientific events. It was interesting to work and learn something new in Excel, as well as process and structure information.”

Many students changed teachers that day; Elizaveta Zayats, who gave a lecture on the discipline “Water Treatment,” shared her feedback on the experience gained.

Elizaveta Zayats: “An excellent experience for a student is to take on the role of a teacher and understand how he feels at a certain moment in the lecture. It’s nice to feel that your lecture is interesting and useful, that you are being listened to and to feel the support of the audience.”

Teachers also appreciated the initiative to hold Self-Government Day.
