Chernobyl — Our Memory and Pain

A round table "Chernobyl — Our Memory and Pain" was held at Brest State Technical University, dedicated to the 39th anniversary of the tragic accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

The event was attended by liquidators of the accident — Vladimir Mikhailovich Nadein, a retired police colonel, former head of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Brest Regional Executive Committee, commander of the law enforcement detachment in the Chernobyl zone, and Anatoly Ivanovich Shulgach, an officer of the law enforcement detachment in the Chernobyl zone, a retired police major.

Students were able to hear personal stories of the participants in the liquidation of the accident, told by them themselves. The participants in the liquidation of the consequences of the accident at the NPP shared their memories of service in the radioactive contamination zone, touched upon important aspects of the impact of radiation contamination on the environment and food, and also answered numerous questions from students.

The event ended with a screening of a documentary video filmed by direct witnesses of those terrible events.

The round table allowed students to better understand the significance of the Chernobyl disaster and to show respect for the people who risked themselves for the safety of others.
